A quote from John Adams

I spent last Evening at the War-office, with General Arnold. He has been basely slandered and libelled. The Regulars say, 'he fought like Julius Caesar.'

Benedict Arnold wrote up and attempted to turn over plans to Fort Arnold (named after the General himself--now Fort Clinton, West Point) to the British after not getting credit for key military victories (Fort Ticonderoga), passed up for promotion, and finally a reprimend from Congress and Washington. Letter to Abigail. [4 A.M. May 22nd, 1777]
